Kid Sketches

Hello Friends,

I think part of the journey of developing a skill is figuring out your weak points so you know where you need to study and try harder.

I decided to try sketching children. My sketches are from my imagination. I have not used any reference photos. I started with a boy, about 10-12 years old. I am pretty satisfied with the results. My next subject was a girl of about 7. I am fairly happy with how she turned out. The most challenging sketch was of a pre-schooler. I erased so many times, I damaged the paper and the end result is pretty creepy looking.

Hence, I realize my need to study toddlers and very young children. I may even try tracing a few subjects to get a better idea of the differnce in their faces from adults and older children.

I thought about only showing you the older children because I was embarrassed with how horribly the young child turned out, but if I refuse to show off my mistakes, I don't think I will be much help to you. Hopefully, after a bit of practice and study, I will be able to show you how I overcame and you will be encouraged to pushed passed your mistakes too.

(BTW, I purposely did not work on their clothing, other than to sketch them loosely)

Thanks for stopping by. What skill are you weak at, but would really like to improve?

Blessing hugs,

I love watching the growth, Teresa. I have no skills whatsoever when it comes to sketches of people. I do tolerably well with nature subjects and some animals but not people. I'm so impressed by your talents but also by your determination and will to keep practicing. I think that's where I fail -- I give up too easily. :-D
